Hello everyone!
We made it back to New Jersey last night. It was an amazing experience and I feel so fortunate that I was able to go. This was the 20th year the People of Color Conference ( POCC) was held and it was the 14th year for the Student Diversity Leadership Conference ( SDLC) This year was the largest conference every held, with roughly 4,000 people!
After listening to various keynote speakers, like Frank Wu, Tarun Tejpal ( who taught us that if we have love and laughter in our lives we can do anything we want!), Marcus Mabry, Maria Hinojosa, and Wilma Mankiller ( the first female elected deputy chief of the Cherokee Nation) I have learned about many different cultures. Each of these speakers had to overcome many obstacles in their lives in order to get to where they are today.
In closing, always remember that we need to treat others like we want to be treated. We are all the same people with good hearts. All of you can become ANYTHING you want to become. So dream big and reach for the stars!

This was a dance performane given this morning after we heard a keynote speaker. It was beautiful to watch these three young ladies.

Ms. Smith Willis and Mrs. Euwer enjoyed breakfast with Maynard and David in the lobby of our hotel
Martinsville Students
David, Maynard, Maya, Audrey, Jasmin, and Elisse are the six students who came with us to Boston.
Mrs. Ogden, Mr. Buckley, Mrs. Euwer, and Ms. Smith Willis miss you all so much but we enjoyed visiting Faneuil Hall
Look at this giant whale! It was hanging over my head and I was very scared!
I liked these two because they were dancing for us!
We saw tons of penguins when we first walked in.
Mrs. Ogden and Ms. Smith Willis LOVED the penguins!
Look at the seal that was putting on a show for us outside of the aquarium! He was so funny!
